Sustaining engineering for replacing EOL parts and reducing EMI in existing products.
RF Communications Integration
Successfully integrated LTE and Mesh communications modules to our devices that met regulatory RF standards and sensitivity requirements by working with antenna vendors, compliance test labs, and iterating the hardware design.
Compliance
Cellular Certification
Coordinated multiple PTCRB and GCF programs and supported AT&T, Bell, Rogers, SoLINC, and Verizon certifications for Sentient Energy products.
FCC Certification
Coordinated and executed FCC 15b certification programs for Sentient devices.
IEEE-495: IEEE Guide for Testing Faulted Circuit Indicators
Coordinated and executed certification programs testing Sentient devices against the IEEE-495 standard.
Manufacturing Support
First Article Inspection
Inspected Manufacturing First Articles for correct assembly against product bill of materials, compliance certifications, and internal specifications for operating parameters and material quality.
Tester Design
Designed and implemented reliable board-level testers for functional validation.
BOM Structure Development
Worked with Compliance, Engineering, Product, and Manufacturing groups to create a top-level product structure allowing flexibility in sustaining engineering efforts and the manufacturing process.
Engineering Lab Design & Development Network
Designed the Product Development Engineering Lab by identifying the needs of the Engineering team and working in collaboration with the construction management company, construction design teams, and contractors to create a space for hardware development.
Restrictive policies from Corporate IT significantly hindered the use of the Corporate network for interfacing test instruments. Working with Corporate IT to meet all necessary security requirements, an isolated lab network was created. This network allowed the Engineers to change test equipment configuration as needed.
Engineering Test Automation
Created, documented, and supported a library of Python programs tailored to test and measurement equipment in the lab facilitating Engineers' automation of device verification testing (DVT). These programs simplified interaction with the equipment by providing a standard interface for multiple types of equipment, handled opening communication and interaction with the unit, and managed common errors the device presented automatically.
Developed canned automated tests using the aforementioned library to facilitate common DVT efforts, such as measuring the transient response, ripple, line and load regulation of a power supply over temperature. These programs required little input as they handled finding the operating point and documented the results in a standard format.
First Article Inspection Process
Made significant improvements to the First Article Inspection (FAI) process that reduced the amount of time for an article to be approved by standardizing requirements for approval, standardizing the FAI workflow, and improving inter-department communication around the FAI using a Kanban board.
Schematic Standards Development
Improved design time and reduced stress on supply chain management by creating a library of frequently used parts in Sentient products. Also included were typical application circuits that had been tested and verified by Engineering reducing the design time and number of iterations a design went through before reaching production.
